WHAT KEEPS THE BOAT AFLOAT

by Sue Faulkner

Welcome to Hot Women and we hope you enjoy browsing the website to pick up useful information and tips, relevant to you and your business.

By way of observation, as I travel around small businesses I see different styles of personal and professional interactions in each workplace. Some seem to work well; people are engaged and focussed on their daily routines. On the other hand some workplaces are dull and lifeless and no one seems to be driven or motivated. Could this be due to no one appreciating the time and effort put in each day?

Me Time

It's about looking after No. 1

As owner-operator of a small business, the most important single resource is yourself – so you need to allow some “Me Time” to take care of No. 1. This was the key message provided by the Hot Women network for participants at their first event for 2011.

Following their successful launch and strong growth through 2010, Hot Women again attracted a capacity group of regional business women for their “Me Time” event at Port Macquarie’s Country Comfort Motel. The venue provided excellent facilities for an interesting afternoon of activities.

Guest presenters for Me Time were Debbie Gillespie, proprietor of Feel Well Natural Therapies, and Martine Ford, operator of Spirit Yoga. Participants were divided into two groups, with Debbie taking over the conference room while Martine’s group took advantage of the mild afternoon on the lush lawn behind the motel.

Top 5 Marketing to Women Visuals

By Marti Barletta

Women pay attention to visuals even more than the population at large. As such, your marketing team should pay special attention to the visuals they use for anything targeted towards women, such as advertising, product packaging and web design. Here are my top five recommendations for what to include in visuals that market to women:

The Language of Marketing to Women

Shaping Our Message and Our Mindset to Match Our Customer By Marti Barletta

Sandra Stahl's CMO Strategy article "Strike That Emotional Chord With Consumers With 'Gentle Collisions'" got me thinking about the language we use in marketing to women, and specifically, whether we might do ourselves a favor by adapting it to the new market and market conditions we are now working with.

Marketing to Women When They Want to Buy

By Marti Barletta

The first step of marketing to women is being there when she wants to buy. Before a consumer will start paying attention to any marketing communication, she has to consider herself in the market, whether it's for a new car, new smart phone, more life insurance or any other product or service.

In my consumer behavior model, I identify a woman's first awareness that there is a need to be met as the Activation stage.

How to Stay Calm Under Pressure

By an eHow Contributor

Staying calm when you are under pressure from work, health issue, family life or a relationship can be difficult at times. Panic and anxiety can flourish and take over your life, resulting in burn out. Take some steps to stay calm under pressure and to escape the stress before it gets to you and affects your health and daily life.

Breathe in and out. When we tend to feel overwhelmed, we forget to breathe deep. Shallow breath does not help us in situations and can only bring on and increase anxiety. Take 5 minutes to stop and breathe and regain your stability.

Take yourself away from the situation. If you seem to be in overwhelming situations lately, it is best to walk away for awhile. In more serious cases of intense pressure, consider taking a holiday.

Stop what you are doing. Go do some form of exercise. Make time for a swim, a stroll outside within nature or maybe an energetic run. Exercise can keep a sense of balance in our mind and body and help us stay calm in stressful situations.

How to Say NO

Say No to People Making Demands on Your Time by Elizabeth Scott 2007

Are you overscheduled and overstressed? With today’s busy schedules, you’re not alone. One way to pare down your schedule is to get good at saying no to new commitments. Whether you say "yes" instead of no out of guilt, inner conflict, or a misguided notion that you can "do it all," learning to say no to more requests can be one of the biggest favours you can do yourself and those you love. It helps reduce stress levels and gives you time for what’s really important.
